Good morning, good afternoon or good evening, depending on when you are tuning into my name is Jonathan Torres Herrera and you are watching or listening to the JTH Show today. We’re going to talk about Netflix in two different stories. The first one will be about the Update around the Cuties movies. And then a, the second one will be around the Selena the series that is coming out in December, but first wrote the intro.
All right. So as always make sure you catch the episodes also on Spotify, Apple podcast, Google podcast, or radio Public. And if it’s not too much ass and give it a like comment on below on what we’re talking about today and make sure you ring the notification bill for your subscription. OK. So the first story on Netflix is one that comes out out of the Fox 30 to Chicago, and that there is a whole bunch of, I guess, outlets as well. That reported on the fact that a Texas grand jury indict Netflix for the Cuties film.
0 (1m 10s):
Now, if you’re know what I’m talking about, it’s OK. You can actually go into watch. Not yet. After the video, you can go watch this video on a whole, a show that I covered the whole controversy behind Cuties, but I’ll give you a really quick compressed, you know, break down on what it was. I’m sorry. I have trouble sometimes still digesting the thought of what I’m about to talk, because although some people have come out in defense of the movie, I still thing is actually pretty gross.
0 (1m 42s):
Now I tried to watch the movie like the first 30 minutes of it, and I honestly have never come back to it. I couldn’t why well, because is exactly what people have been saying. It is, which is essentially a movie that is based on some factual, things are happening somewhere in France and France. I’m sorry. And it’s around little girls that like to dance in a very suggestive manner and it’s gross.
0 (2m 16s):
You know, they they’re twerking. They’re doing all these gestures. And again, let me remind you, these are little girls now in the S in the movie, there are also little girls. Yes. The little girl, actresses, not, you know, show’s in the nineties or something where you had 20 something year olds play, you know, 15 year olds. I can save by the bell. You know, we’re all the actors look, you know, like they’re probably, you know, 18, 1920, but they’re playing 16 year olds in high school. No, no, no, they don’t do that anymore. Well, it’s not edgy enough.
0 (2m 47s):
Right. As some of these artists have said, you know, they need to be realistic. You know, if we’re going to bring awareness to something that is Sirius, which by the way, just like I said, in that video, people should write, this is something definitely that shouldn’t be celebrated. Okay. Call me a conservative, you know, it’s fine. I’m okay with it. But I have little girls and that would never, in my wildest, craziest dreams would even, I don’t know, see myself a green or for that matter of my wife agrees on that.
0 (3m 19s):
Yeah. You know what? Let are girls, no matter how, you know cool the music is, right. Yeah. Let them go. And torque on other little boys or, or just dance the way, you know, these are girls were attempting to dance right. Or perform their art is I just wouldn’t. So I’m sorry. I don’t agree. When you have creators that have done this for the sake of art, I just don’t. If it would have been in documentary style, different story, there’s tons of documentaries that Netflix has done.
0 (3m 51s):
And other publishing houses. Now my, you know what, Hey, this is really interesting. Wow. It’s wow. This is a great way to bring awareness. Having a movie with little actors. Sorry. No, but anyways, catch that whole review that I get more in depth in, but for now to the point of the, this is particular story, I least is Texas, are these a grand juror in taxes? I said, no, we’re onto you. Netflix and they have officially brought an indictment against the company. Now in the article, you know, in which all into that down below, you can read it and, you know, really deep dive into exactly what the is being found guilty of, but essentially is exactly what I just said, which is exposing, you know, an exhibiting children, right.
0 (4m 38s):
In a very sexualized manner. Right. Which again, I don’t see how Netflix has come out and defendant this, I repeat repeated over and over because that’s, that’s the only way they defended it. Art, art, art, I own agree. I think Netflix has done great documentaries, great movies. They are in many ways of pioneers of this whole stream service. In fact, you know, the next story is also involving Netflix. I don’t think Netflix, by the way to close out the story real quick.
0 (5m 10s):
I don’t think they are this evil corporation, greedy they’ve been involved in other scandals. I’m sure it, and you know, they have, I’m sure their bad side of the employees probably can, can argue, umm, in this particular case, I think that they’re wrong. I think that they were wrong from the beginning, from even toying with the idea of bringing in this to their platform, again, all in name of art. And I honestly hope that this is not a, a store day decided to die on right.
0 (5m 42s):
And say, you know, Hey, you know, I don’t care what these super conservative people, right. Maybe such as myself would say about our, our art screw you guys. We are going to continue making movies. In fact, today’s number is coming to theory to you next year now, because guess what I mean, it’s not just me anymore. This is an actual, or this has come up, you know, now in court, right. To wear, this is not, this is not a thing of, you know, liberals against conservatives or, or no does, this is a matter of now it, you know, it has come into legal hands and hopefully again is not a sword that Netflix will die on the learn from this, they’ll say, Hey, we try to push the envelope.
0 (6m 28s):
Maybe this generation is not ready for it at sure. That’s fine. Move on, which I should to. Okay. So let’s move on to the, to the next story. And that is a also involving Netflix, like I said, and that is around the new Series that’s gonna come out around a, an artist that has, that was murdered at this point. Geez. I was 20 something years ago. Selena you guys may know her. So I’m, if you guys may not, I think there’s going to be a large community of people that definitely knows obviously who that is.
0 (6m 60s):
And it’s why we’re talking about it today. So before I came to my opinion, let’s get into who’s, you know, playing the character as, and what do we know so far? So first of all, it’s gonna be released in December or excuse me, its going to be a short mini series and it’s going to be played or Selena will be played by the way by Christian Cerritos, who is, you might know her from another role that she did a Rosita in the walking dead. So she’s gonna be playing Selena the other obviously notable characters such as Abraham can Dunia will be played by the Gato Chavarria, say the Lopez or are you playing Monticello Kintone yet?
0 (7m 39s):
Which is the mother Gabriel char Chavarria, sorry for the last name is Herrera and I try <inaudible> this is the third. And then we Me Gonzalez, this will be played by, sorry. That would be play best Jose. When you go inside, this will be Suzette. And then Josee Jessie Posey will be Christian Paris. I’m sorry. I’m really bad with names, but essentially that’s the whole cast and crew, right? So yes, if they’re announcing all these characters, you know, it’s because they’re going to be in the mini series and obviously these are all individuals at played a very big part in the, in the LIFE of Selena being the, all these individuals were related to her right now.
0 (8m 23s):
Here’s where I are, where I come down on this. And while I am personally excited to see this whole new series, I am, I already saw comments online. And even in speaking with my wife, we are, you know, it’s all theory, but rightfully so, you know, theorizing that there’s going to be a big backlash just like there was with the movie that came out, right? If you guys don’t remember or never heard of it, Jennifer Lopez played Selena in a 1997 biopic where know many people say, Oh, that’s what made, you know, Hey, I realize people that sit with people and trying to say, I’ve heard that’s what made Jennifer Lopez either way years later, there are still people, you know, back in the fourth on the topic, whether she did a good job or she didn’t get a good, do a good job now.
0 (9m 12s):
Wow. You know, Christian is not as big as an, as an actress or you can say, Mmm or you know, a Lister as J-Lo. I think that, you know, it’s definitely, you know, very brave of her to come in, try to do a role of a character that I think many people, you know, definitely adore in love, but more importantly, a lot of people over romanticize now. Wow. I didn’t. I just say yes. I think a lot of people that love, you know, actors and actresses and singers, they typically over romanticized people, specifically, those that have died in their own weird, you know, way in their head.
0 (9m 58s):
And then they get very aggressively possessive over those individuals. So let’s even go back to something like my wife said, a simple, a non real character, write a nonfiction character or a fiction character, excuse me, like the joker. Right. You know, there was a one the piction paid by Heath ledger. Then now nobody wants to let go. Me included, you know, the everybody’s I know what you can’t ever play him as good as him. And no matter who comes after, you know, he ledger again, playing a fictional character.
0 (10m 33s):
People either always go to the actual cartoon or they go to the heat ledger and they’re like, no, that was nowhere near as good as those. So to play someone like Selena Solana, you know, arguably belongs to the Latino community specifically, I would say more than anything, the, the, the Mexican community. Right. And typically I have seen that people in those communities again, get very controlling about who portrays those characters, right?
0 (11m 8s):
People will see them the show. I don’t think there’s an argument about that. That’s and that’s and even nothing to do. And what I’m saying, hear, what I’m saying is on a lot of people pretend to know these actors, singers, actresses that have passed away now that are making movies about, and then really can get aggressive with the actors are playing these The these roles, right? You seen people get quote unquote canceled, right? I’ve said it before as that is rampant now.
0 (11m 38s):
Right. And it’s sad because that’s my prediction already, before I even see this series, I hope I’m entirely wrong. I hope I can come back to this. When I finally launched, by the way, quick preview side note, the streaming critic, YouTube channel in which I will review, you know, movies and stuff like that. This will be one of the first ones that I do on there. I hope that I can, you know, fast forward in December and say, wow, I was totally wrong about this. People all over the world are, are saying, this is the best thing that they’ve ever seen and that they love it. And there’s no backlash for the actors.
0 (12m 10s):
But unfortunately if we’re realistic and if we’re honest, what do you often see? You often see again, the fans gaining real crazy sending threats, sanding, you know, all these nasty messages. On on Twitter, on Facebook, on Instagram, you know, and, and unfortunately you have actors and actresses, like, you know what I’m done, I’m done. I don’t want to do this anymore. And that’s not horrible. Right? Because it is often in my opinion that these remarks, right.
0 (12m 41s):
Come from people that are a aren’t even actors or actresses themselves, B not individuals that are in any way. I don’t know really, truly fans of the original source material, just because you knew a couple of songs and you dance to them in your bathroom, right. Or in your kitchen. And you know, you’re like, Oh my God, I knew her when I was little. And I was so sad when she died, doesn’t know that you’re not a super fan. You’re not a mega fan.
0 (13m 11s):
And those on the people that usually don’t understand that. And they end up getting really aggressive. And I only say this, you know, with this level of confidence, because I’ve seen the J-Lo comments I have before I, you know, decided to do this video, I went on and I literally researched. And any you can do to, you know, <inaudible> as Selena. And then you, of course, you going to get all these different results in Google, click on any of the other platforms like Facebook or Instagram or any of those, then you’re going to get so many people saying she wasn’t a really, even a real at the time, you know, because she was from New York.
0 (13m 45s):
It’s like, Oh, I don’t even know what the hell that makes sense. And the way that is a comment, by the way I saw him, you know? And it’s a sad, you know, because I believe that that potentially it, that has a potential here and already. And especially cause we live in a very negative world right now, you know, no matter what we’re, we’re trying to bring out as entertainment. You know, people are always like, Oh, I want to stop talking about around. I when I stopped talking about this, entertain me, you know, then we entertain. I don’t like it. You know, she’s not even re you know, by the way I saw some comments, have the, the actress, Christina they’re re critiquing and it’s so pathetic, her height and her weight.
0 (14m 25s):
I’m not kidding. Google. Look for yourself. It’s not that hard. Huh? Chris. Oh, I’m sorry. I keep saying Christina, I’m sorry. <inaudible> you know why I’m so sorry. The actress’s name is Christian Serato. I’m sorry. It, my brain on my ugly ghost to Christina, I am accustomed that the name Christian has is usually, you know, four, four boys. I’m sorry. Okay. I’m going to get canceled now. My wife’s canceling mermaid. Now. She’s it’s going on fricking you tube. And she is like down, you know, she’s probably like that one person I’m going to, you guys noticed by the way that always down likes my videos is like one person that does.
0 (15m 3s):
I think his, my wife low key. I think it’s her. She says, she’s not, if I’m going to grab her phone one day, I’m going to make sure it is going to go to my own videos. And I like, LIFE the hell dude, it’s for the anger at them anyways. So let me, let me know what you think again, when I finally launched the streaming critic, it’ll be a YouTube channel. It’ll be all about movie reviews. And you know, since I was, I dunno, fricking a kid, I love to watch movies. You know, I love to, you know, sit down and really watch. I’m not now just, you know, take it in and, and leave and say, hi, I have any watch that movie once.
0 (15m 38s):
No, I I’m the type of guy I can watch a movie, you know, or a Series a few times. And it really started grabbing onto the little things I had missed before. Umm, or, you know, just in general, you know, pick up more of what the storyline was. So yeah, I’ll be doing that soon. And I think again, Selena will be a perfect Series for me to do that. So I’ll let you guys know when that finally is launching a hope. You guys can also go on and, and subscribe there, but that’s it for today guys. I hope you guys have a great rest everyday and as always leave your comments and likes down below.
