Good morning, good afternoon or good evening, depending on when you are tuning in. My name is Jonathan Torres Herrera and you are watching or listening to the JTH Show today. I want to talk about, should a woman be allowed to Breastfeed and zoom call at the same time, but first role the intro
All right. As always, you can catch a full episode on Spotify, Apple podcast, Google podcast, or radio Public also, if you don’t mind in this video, sharing it, dropping a comment and subscribing, if you haven’t, if you have subscribed is very important that you reign those on a vacation bells. Otherwise you’ll not going to know when I drop these awesome videos for you, because they’re made for you. Don’t forget that. Okay. Let’s start with the video now. So there is an interesting article that I came across on CNN, and in fact, it was a, in different outlets, including a, the daily mail.
0 (1m 9s):
And then there was a, there was even an article done in Spanish that went on and two, this whole other world of like issues around women and breastfeeding. Now the one I’m going to talk about today, specifically, which I actually read a, is the one from the daily mail.com. And that is California college professor is forced to apologize who student 23, after telling her not to Breastfeed her 10 month old baby girl during online classes.
0 (1m 41s):
Yes. That has a whole title of the article. Now, there are some things on here that, you know, like my producer over there said, who cares about like, this is 23 or her name and stuff like that, which I guess I could agree now, the things that we should highlight and that’s what we’re here for today is the young student went on to get an apology, went on, to speak or communicate at least through a, some kind of email exchange with the head of the school of the College.
0 (2m 17s):
And he was told, Hey, a yeah. You know, to continue breastfeeding your child. And in fact, California, which is where this happened. There are actually some laws that allow Women or actually have told employers, right. And schools that they have to give Women time to Breastfeed their child without facing any kind of backlash or any kind of, you know, repercussion for again, taking time to feed their child, whether off work or, or doing homework, you know, or, you know, from in this case college classes.
0 (2m 54s):
Now the article is quite extensive, includes some photos of, of the student. You know, the fact that, you know, she actually also went on a big rant, online, social media. She was pretty upset over to the whole thing. Now I definitely have my opinion over this, of course. And I don’t know that it’s going to be a popular one. My wife is very on the edge right now. Now, as I’ve said it before my wife and I have three children. And, you know, we, we went through the whole breastfeeding phase, right?
0 (3m 26s):
Yes. A I went through to, and let me tell you while I have some points with my wife that we mutually agree on, there are some points, of course she doesn’t. Now one of them I’ll start with the good ones. What some of the points are hay. The individual definitely needs to have time to be able to feed her, her child write that is not only by law, but also something that you cannot deny, right?
0 (3m 56s):
You cannot tell a child, a baby, you’re not going to be fed right now. There are more important things. Okay, chill out. Now, of course, we cannot do that. Nobody should really do that. Right. A I’m against people on the street, which is that one of the record that I was talking to you about that went into this whole other rabbit hole about all, is this, you know, very similar to when women are feeding publicly and in some individuals have even been caught on tape yelling at women for, Hey, you know, put your breasts, OAM, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. I think that this is a very different, right.
0 (4m 28s):
When a woman has out out N you know, has to stop, you know, in feet or a child, I get it 100%. Yes, of course. I have a bias here because well, my wife had to do that plenty of times, right? No matter where you’re at, it doesn’t matter. Babies don’t really know if your at a very important dinner or if your, you know, out just running a quick errand, it doesn’t matter. And once they start going, they start going in. I mean, crying of course. Right. And what can you do about it? Many of you that, you know, our parents, you would understand this, OK, this is not that this is different.
0 (5m 4s):
This is goes along with the whole, Hey, right now, we’re all in this together. And I’m referring to the pandemic, you know, where we have to kind of mold our lives at home to fit the schedules and the zoom calls, the phone call, you know, conversations and meetings that we have to take for you, the work or school. And we need to make sure that our home doesn’t, you know, leak into those meetings, right. As much as possible.
0 (5m 35s):
Now I can say this firsthand, you guys I’ve seen my videos right. At my other video about a, you know, the discussing side of distance learning with children now, While I had my strong opinions are, were that there is a part of me that says, all right, but those are kids, JT, right? Immature, sucking under clothes, like, you know, like they’re babies, but whatever, at the end of the day, immature children. OK. In this particular case, we have a situation where a mother, right.
0 (6m 8s):
Is, is attending college. I applauded that great. She is trying to make something of herself. Hey, she has a baby, not a newborn, but a baby nonetheless. And she still tries to, you know, make sure she, she gets those a College, you know, courses in a fantastic, again, everything to apply to there. What are our do not agree with? Well, I don’t agree with the fact that if, you know, you have to have a camera and microphone on you, it is allegedly, according to the articles, phase two, you, or face phasing U in a way we’re, you know, everybody is getting, you know, a four show of what your having to do with your child and yeah.
0 (6m 52s):
Or there’s even a photo, but to hear nods, boom, right. Where, you know, she took this photo after the fact, she was like, Hey, here’s our picture to show people that I can do my class. You know, my wife was even telling me, you know, yeah. When I used to have to do it, whether it be in Public, you know, I used to try to cover myself up because that’s what you do. And, you know, even when, when you are on camera something, you try not to be on camera, you know, or, or at least the part of you that doesn’t need to be right.
0 (7m 27s):
The professor in his particular case wanted to see more than anything her face. I don’t think any, any work right. I’m boss or a professor or teacher, is that actually within the would be illegal. We are like, Hey, put a camera facing you where we can see all of you lower, lower. Good, perfect. No, right. If they want to see that you’re on camera, just to make sure that you’re not either just recording a meeting and taking a nap or something in that, you know, that your microphone is also, you can participate.
0 (7m 57s):
That’s really it. But again, I don’t picture this professor of saying, can you put a lower, I don’t think we can see your baby’s face clearly while you’re breastfeeding. No. Now the professor, from what I understand, what she did is, you know, or he did actually even know if it’s a, to a male or female, not that it would matter, but the professor went on to say, Hey, please leave the breastfeeding for after class. Now I definitely would have done it differently personally. Right. If I was a professor, I would have dealt with it very differently.
0 (8m 29s):
If I saw that these student, you know, was, was, you know, having to feed the, the child or whatever I would have maybe, you know, slacked her, if they, you Slack or some type of messaging system, right. Stop the class, everybody time out. Or, you know what, I’m not going to share the cameras with everybody where everybody can see everything. I would have done something of that nature if I needed to take care of it right then, and then, and then say, Hey, yeah, don’t do that. Yeah. I’m not going to say anything. I stopped a class real quick for you, but can you either a face your camera very high, or just turn it off right now in this particular situation, with this story, reading the details it’s she began to Breastfeed or child do.
0 (9m 8s):
The professor called her out, which again I disagree with. And then later on through some exchange messages after afterward, you know, after the fact she said, Oh, Hey, you know, I could definitely turn off my, my, my, a webcam or my microphone when I have to Breastfeed when a child now, again, I think this could have been avoided if you would have, just right. There you go. You know, if you ever used one of these right here, very futuristic pieces of equipment, you know, let the camera is only going to get so much, right.
0 (9m 40s):
I can be doing something down here and you have no idea what I’m doing, how it is, but no, that didn’t happen. Right? I’m the camera, a deck that believe was capturing enough where the professor felt I need to call you out right out. You know, again, not that I agree with the professor doing a net and allegedly the way she says I’m the professor did. But if that’s, I guess, has a different topic. So let’s, let’s move on to the fact that this is something that is now happening more and more often, you hear more and more stories, right?
0 (10m 12s):
Where people either a leak a little bit of their life, like you saw on that intro video. And that was interesting, wasn’t it? Or you have, you know, unfortunately individuals that are at work at home, of course, because of what’s happening, not just in the U S worldwide. And if you have other household family members that yes, you can argue and say, well, they’re in their house. JTH like, they forget, have you ever walked around you? Or you saw in a video and that will argue, and this is a model that your business, but yes, if you have to know I have done it, but I don’t just, I often just get caught on camera now more than ever.
0 (10m 53s):
I am super hyper aware if any cameras on. Sometimes I’m in here in this room by myself, you know, and I’m typing away and I have a little, you know, a thing, you know, you have to go digging. And now I’m like, is that off? Is that off? And I go over there and I check, make sure it’s off. And I’m like, that’s weird. I’m anxious was weird. And then I’m like, Oh, there was another webcam right there. You know, it happens. So when I’m at home with my children, by the way, three of them, and then they’re on their webcams now at school, I honestly feel like I can be myself.
0 (11m 31s):
So I know the inconvenience, you know, you take like 10 steps, you know, with a long, hard, and all I caught on it at Harwell. And as soon as the cameras are like walk by, and then you walk by and in the next chapter, you like, it feels weird. I get it. I get the feeling right. Of not feeling like, Hey, you’re in your home. And now you’re leading all these eyeballs watch inside your home. So I get it. I really understand, I understand her right work.
0 (12m 2s):
And in her case school have now come and invaded her home. Right? Well, I say work in school, Ryan in her case school have now invaded her home, her privacy, but we’re all in this together. I’ve said it before. I mean, what’s the better alternative. I don’t think there’s one, by the way, a or the better answer that many people actually reported or excuse me, saw that I replied will in quit school. That’s dumb.
0 (12m 33s):
Nobody doesn’t as quit school and quit, you know, work and quit LIFE until this whole thing was over. No is going to do that. Right. People need to adjust. People need to figure out a way to situate their environment, to make sure that they don’t have distractions. Remember that same video that I just mentioned about the disgusting, you know, site of a, of a distance learning, or if you guys are going to see that video, there’s a little clip. Or I included, you know, something with a care that, you know, live in a very unfortunate situation.
0 (13m 6s):
At least it appeared to be that way, you know, in comparison to kids to have like their own room and everything On eyes and Lear and everything. And in his case, he went to the trouble of saying up a current, every time he had to go to school, just not have any distractions behind him. That’s this is what you do. Right. So of course, there’s gonna be people like, in this case with her, that she had, she went off, she got interviewed by CNN and you know, the daily mail and all this other stuff. And she got the attention she wanted.
0 (13m 37s):
Right. In, of course, you’re going to have a very large group of, of individuals in this case, probably mainly mothers, you know, that come to The to the rescue and say, Hey, how dare you? You have no idea. But for those of us, that lid was someone that had to do the same actions and more than anything agreed. It was me. You know what I’m saying? Yeah. There’s work arounds. If you really want to and not be sort of out there with what your having to do with their child. Not that it’s a taboo, cause they don’t want people and be like, you’re making a tonic, it’s a bad thing.
0 (14m 10s):
Stop it. I’m not. But what The, you know what the routine of having to feed your child, you do things you do wanna, yeah, it has to be mutual. There you go. Right. You want your privacy? Well, this is my wife did write my wife very private like that. Sometimes I didn’t even know what she was doing. I thought she was just having a tobacco econ top of her, you know, and I’ll assign, one of my kid would pop a link, you know, you know, like, ya know,
2 (14m 38s):
What is underneath there that whole time.
0 (14m 41s):
That was really interesting, you know, but it was mutual. She wanted her privacy. That’s what’s the, what she was. And you know, she don’t want any, you know, any or anyone else to intrude on anyone else’s, you know, sort of space or a privacy, right. Is actually just said it was mutual. Yes, of course. I’ve also known people that really don’t care and they’re like, Oh, they’re hungry. Or if I come here and walk over here and you already walk, come here and that just got out. I haven’t seen it. It happens. My wife’s even like, yeah.
0 (15m 11s):
I mean, what do you do it clearly there, the individual doesn’t care about privacy, anything, you know what, that’s your problem? That or not, I guess that’s your business. I do not care to, to partake in seeing your one-year-old walk over there and just like, so I’m going to turn this way, which is my last point here, you know, in a public setting, you like, you see someone that probably, so when I started doing, you know, the feeling of their child, you get to just walk away and just do you not have to turn?
0 (15m 43s):
Which is a little bit of what I was saying earlier about people that get all crazy when they see Women having to Breastfeed their child. Right. It’s ridiculous. When that party, you know, no one’s forcing, you know, is like, excuse me, she has her, can you please, can you come here real quick? Ma’am he was about to serve Breastfeed or a child. Can you take a moment and please to observe it? No, one’s doing that. Just walk, move, go in zoom classes where you have all these eyeballs lap, unfortunately also have to be watching the same class.
0 (16m 16s):
And I don’t know why perf more professors and teachers don’t turn off to the cameras, but another video front of the day, you know, they’re like, what are they doing? What everybody does not, have you ever been a zoom class or a zoom meeting? Tell me you haven’t or a Google Me or whatever, or any, any platform? Tell me you’re not like watching and then you’re able to go, like siendo every body does that. You know, I do that still all my kids, my wife chat, you know what I’m talking, chatting with my wife, you know?
0 (16m 51s):
Yeah. We were in class, of course, we’re doing, you know, and I’m like, what is she doing? And we all, I, you know, in different rooms. So, you know, it, it happened. Oh. So if you know that you’re going to have anywhere between 10 to 15, 20, 30 eyeballs on you write or more I’m, you know, maybe, maybe you make sure that you don’t have anything in the background. Your husband’s not going to be walking. It’s not that easy or do what I do. You know what I do when I’m about to start doing like a meeting or something, I’m going to start recording.
0 (17m 25s):
And I might, you know, Alexa start broadcasting that are going to record, you know? And I start, you know, doing, you know, messages and letting people know, because I don’t want anybody to walk in here where to Dante dance. Remember Johnny, that one time I was my bad, you know why? Cause I didn’t tell people is walked in here and I’m like, I’m recording, you know? Anyway, do you have My remember that? Remember you guys remember that, right? Yes. Most of you guys are new here. My kid in one time. Right. And was just, you know, Hey, I need it. I need, I need, I need this. I need that.
0 (17m 55s):
But that’s on me. Sorry. I unfortunately press the buy in here for dear. A lot of clients who just went crazy. But anyways, that’s it for today, guys. I really hope you enjoy the show. Leave me your comments on below.
